Great question, and there's only one answer: for your safety! A jack is made ONLY for lifting the car. We never work under a car if it's supported only by a jack, because hydraulic systems can always lose pressure. Once you lift the vehicle, you put the jack stands underneath, lower it to "sit" securely on them, and then you can work with 100% peace of mind!

These numbers indicate the maximum weight (in Tons) that each stand can safely support. If you work with small or medium passenger cars, 2T or 3T stands will cover you completely. But if large SUVs, vans, or light trucks come into your workshop, then you definitely need to go for the 6T "beasts" to have peace of mind.

Careful here: jack stands must ALWAYS rest on hard and completely level ground, like concrete or an industrial workshop floor. If you put them on dirt, on asphalt that softens in the summer heat, or on a slope, there is a huge risk they could sink or tip over, which is extremely dangerous.

If you ever need to pull an engine out of a vehicle for a major overhaul, an engine stand is your "right hand". You bolt the engine onto the stand, and it holds it securely in the air. The best part? The head of the stand rotates 360 degrees, allowing you to turn the engine to whatever angle suits you, so you can work comfortably from all sides.

Every car manufacturer has specific, reinforced "jacking points" under the chassis, specially made for jacks and stands. They are usually located right behind the front wheels and slightly in front of the rear ones. Never place them under plastic parts, fluid lines, or sensitive areas of the floor pan, because you will cause damage to the vehicle!
