The angle grinder cuts, polishes and cleans metal, stone, tiles and other hard materials using a disc that spins very fast. The cordless version does exactly the same job but without a cable, so you can work freely anywhere, even where there isn’t a socket nearby.
18V refers to the battery voltage, which indicates how powerful the tool is; 18V offers a very good balance between power and weight. 125mm is the diameter of the disc, the most common size, which comfortably covers most cutting and sanding jobs.
Modern 18V cordless saws have come very close to matching mains-powered saws for most everyday jobs, especially with a good battery. For very heavy-duty, continuous cutting throughout the day, the mains-powered saw may still have the edge, but the freedom of being cordless is often more valuable in practice.
It depends on how demanding the job is and on the battery’s ampere-hours (Ah). It lasts longer for light sanding, whilst it runs out more quickly when cutting through hard metal. Many professionals keep a second, fully charged battery to hand so they can swap it over and carry on without any downtime.
Usually yes, provided the tools belong to the manufacturer’s own battery range or platform. This is a major advantage, as you can power a drill, a sander and other tools with just one or two batteries. Before you buy, ask us about compatibility so you can put together a set that shares the same batteries.
You use thin cutting discs to cut metal, thicker grinding discs to sand and remove welds, and special diamond discs for stone and tiles. Very important: each disc must be suitable for 125mm and for the tool’s speed; otherwise, you risk it breaking.
It is safe as long as you use it correctly. Always wear goggles or a face shield and gloves, keep the guard in place, and stand so that the sparks fly away from you. A cordless wheel also has the advantage that you don’t run the risk of getting tangled up in or accidentally cutting the cable.
The brushless motor is more modern: it has less internal friction, so it heats up less, delivers more power from the same battery and lasts for more years without wear and tear. If the tool is brushless, you generally get more running time from a single charge and it requires less maintenance.
«Solo» means you’re buying just the tool, without a battery or charger included in the box. This is a good option if you already have batteries from the same range and want to save money. If this is your first tool from this range, then it’s best to go for the set that includes batteries and a charger.
