Choosing the right lubricant is the "Alpha and Omega" for your engine's longevity. It’s not enough to just look at the viscosity, like the well-known 5W-30. You should always consult your manufacturer's manual for specific specifications (e.g., ACEA, API, or manufacturer approvals like MB-Approval). At Geosantro, we have a huge range covering everything from passenger cars to heavy-duty vehicles, so you’ll definitely find exactly what suits your needs.
Fully synthetic lubricants, like many in the Triathlon series found in our shop, are engineered in a lab to withstand very high temperatures and don't break down easily. Semi-synthetics are a more economical solution, combining mineral oils with synthetic bases. If you have a modern engine, synthetic is the only way to go, as it offers better lubrication during startup and significantly helps reduce fuel consumption.
Not necessarily, although they are a favorite choice for workshops! Large packages offer a much better price per liter, so if you have a fleet of vehicles or perform many oil changes throughout the year, it’s financially worth investing in a 20-liter container. At Geosantro, we make sure to stock all sizes, from the classic 1L for top-ups to 205L drums for large-scale operations.
This indication is extremely important if you drive a modern diesel car with a particulate filter (DPF). Low SAPS lubricants have low levels of Sulfated Ash, Phosphorus, and Sulfur. This means that when they burn, they don't leave residues that could clog your filter. Using the wrong oil in these engines can lead to very expensive repairs in the exhaust system.
There are certain "warning signs" you should never ignore. If you feel the car "jerking" or "kicking" during gear changes, hear unusual noises coming from the transmission, or notice a delay in response when you press the accelerator, the lubricant has likely lost its vital properties. Fresh, clean lubricant from Geosantro can restore that signature smooth driving feel.
While in an emergency it is better to top up with any oil rather than let the engine run dry, mixing different types is generally not recommended. Each lubricant has a unique chemical composition and specific additives. By mixing them, you alter their properties and reduce the effectiveness of the protection. It is best to always keep a 1L bottle of the oil used in your last change in the trunk.
This depends on the manufacturer's instructions, but also on your driving conditions. If you mostly drive in the city with constant "stop-and-go" traffic, the lubricant is under much more stress. A general rule for modern synthetic oils is every 10,000 to 15,000 kilometers or once a year. Don't neglect it, because old oil loses its lubricating ability and collects residues that wear the engine down internally.
Viscosity indicates how "thick" or "thin" the oil is. The first number (e.g., 0W or 5W) shows the flow during a cold start, while the second (e.g., 30 or 40) shows its behavior in heat. Due to the high temperatures we have in Cyprus during the summer, we need lubricants that stay stable and don't turn into "water" when the engine is boiling, so they can continue to protect the metal surfaces.
